aToday, I learned a very valuable lesson for getting around San Francisco. On ball game days, avoid public transportation going anywhere near AT&T stadium. For that matter, avoid going any nearer to the stadium than 2 miles. This is not an easy task for me as the stadium is a 5 minute walk up the street from where I live. I really need to look up the game schedule and keep it in mind.
This is pertinent because I was trying to make my way to the downtown Borders today at the same time a city's worth of rabid fans were making their way to the stadium. I didn't end up finding the store because I was lead to believe it had a street entrance, but instead it's in the mall on Market st. I didn't even know market st had a mall and I supposedly walked by it four times. Maybe tomorrow I'll try again, if I can pick my ego up off of the floor.
Oh, and the book I was looking to get? New Becoming Vegetarian: The Essential Guide to a Healthy Vegetarian Diet. Before any of you decide that I've spent too much time with the hippy art students out here (although that is entirely possible), I am not intending to pursue a solely vegetarian diet, nor have I grown a soft spot for the animals. Although I really should, since Cows are so damned cuddly. No, I simply have come to the conclusion that my eating habits suck and that a low fat, high fiber diet would be good for me. That and with the farmer's market here meeting twice a week within biking distance, it might be cheaper than what I'm currently doing as well. What I'm doing now involves a lot of red bull and microwave pizzas.
So that has been your daily Lyle update. And to anyone who says I missed my update today, foo on you. I started typing at 11:59pm. So there :P

I can't believe the season finale. They were so clever with the rest of the series, did they figure they could take a break on the last episode of the season? Ok, ok, it was pretty good, and I appreciated that there was no huge-ass fight scene like it was an x-men film. My problem had to do with Nathan dying. I mean seriously, you want to write your huge dramatic moment, then own it. Flying him into the air when you could have just as easily taken Claire's gun and shot him is just silly. It's not like he would have died. Plus it's out of character. The guy is a cut throat get ahead kind of ambitious person. I liked that his one soft spot was his brother, but not even that would make someone like him sacrifice himself when there's another alternative available. And trying to make a huge dramatic moment out of shooting someone who heals is just bad writing, plain and simple.
Oh, yes, I'm bringing this blog back. I may or may not switch CCW over to a portal; I haven't decided yet. Regardless, I'll be posting daily writings here. I know I've said this before, but it's true. From here on out, I'll be posting some form of writing here before midnight every day or I have to bike up Potrero Hill the next morning. I get winded just walking up that damned hill, so the last thing I want to do is miss a day. And by some form of writing, I mean any form of writing: blogging, story clips, scripts, or even a question. I'm not picky.
Maybe I'll do a podcast one of these days... on what, I have no idea, but hey, a PODCAST! :P

I figured it was about time for me to start writing again, so here's a story I revised from two years ago. I wrote it as a short short one page story for my independent study with Prof. Duemer. I'm not entirely sure what the point of this story is and neither does Prof. Duemer, but I'm sure there is one, somewhere. At the very least it's a short and sweet story that will make you go "awww."
yeah yeah, you can all bite me now.
Oh, and I haven't forgotten "Stages of Acceptance." I just need a little break from it.
OK, here's the first draft I did two years ago, for reference. Don't be afraid to read both, they're short. Very short.( A Casual Affair, V1Collapse )
And here's the version I just wrote.( A Casual Affair, V2Collapse )"All we are is bullets"

Well, I've decided that I'll start posting in this thing again. It was either that or start up a forum on CCW
for this kind of stuff, and as a wise man once said, forum administration is like wrestling a herd of deranged monkeys. I had more than enough of that back at WTSC
. If by some chance someone reads this and wants
a forum for writing critique, I can point you to a few.
Anyway, second or third revision of a story I wrote for a class last semester. It should ring true to the suicidal emo teenager, as much as I tried to avoid that. Oh well. It's pretty short for me. I was working on curing the diarrhea of the keyboard I get sometimes (just look at this post...). Feel free to tear it apart. Go ahead, strike me down! Then I shall become more powerful than you can imagine!( Stages of AcceptanceCollapse )

Well, since it's come to my attention I never actually posted anywhere that I was going to stop posting, I'm doing that now. I haven't been posting because I've been posting to my website (which isn't yet done... but that matters not to me).http://www.beyondinsane.net/bs2/
so don't expect anymore posts from me here, but I will keep the account to leave comments on other people's accounts. (Viva la RSS!)
Ok, follow the link... I've converted the temp site over to the new look. And I think I rather like how I set the code up because the actual conversion took less than an hour. However, it took me upwards of three hours to figure out that floating something inside of my template quickly screws -everything- up. So no float tags, mmkay? ;) anywho, there are a lot of finishing touches I need to go through and do, the first of which will involve the main content box... namely moving the page names from the top title bar to the window title bar (that doesn't stick out enough to catch them anyway). The next will involve making the date bar disappear when there's nothing to show there (which is basically whenever it isn't displaying a blog or a rant). so, yeah... still lots of work to do, but we're in the final stretch.
oh yes, and I've broken the users page. I'll get to that this weekend sometime (the problem is i haven't converted it for the new template yet).
on a personal note... erm, right. i have personal notes? righto... erm, *cough* umm...
oh yes! grad schools...
I'm looking at two in the NYC area (NYU and Columbia), two in the baltimore area (JHU and Univ of Baltimore), and two in Boston (Boston U and Emerson). I'd look at a few in San Francisco, but frankly, there's no way in hell I can get out there to visit the campuses. Besides, I think six is more than enough to look at / apply to. Which reminds me, I need to get on that soon...

My weekend break was pretty good until monday came along. To make a long story short, I wound up going back to college on tuesday afternoon instead of monday morning and wound up playing musical cars in between trips to the DMV. But that's neither here nor there.
What is here (and there) is the fact that I'll hopefully be able to budget time to work on the website this weekend. I managed to get caught back up with my school work last night (well, more or less) but I also set myself a fairly rigorous writing schedule... that is, I have two or three stories I've been looking at that I really want to get around to writing. But in order to do that, I need to finish the one "fortune cookie" exercise for class that I started that, um, kind of got away from me. It's featuring a character I haven't used in a long while and that I miss... our friendly neighborhood rogue, Lytjan! This time he manages to charm the pants off of a cairhienin noble visiting andor, all the while robbing her blind. Needless to say, I'm having quite a bit of fun with the story, so it just keeps going on and on... and I haven't even gotten to the fortune cookie part we're supposed to be writing about yet.
So yeah, that's me so far this week. Sorry it's so brief and disjoint, but I'm writing this during an annoying class and I'm switching windows every four seconds or so to keep the teacher in the dark. Meh.
So yeah, more updates this week as the site gets closer to completion. *crosses fingers*
